Welcome to the Boarding House

The Canberra Girls Grammar School Boarding House is a home away from home where young women develop independence, tolerance and self-sufficiency -- valuable skills that will serve them well in life after school.

Our boarding community is wonderfully diverse with students coming from regional and remote Australia as well as from all over the world. We take pride in our team of dedicated professionals who have a genuine interest in the wellbeing and development of young girls, and who are passionate about making sure each student living in the Boarding House feels at home. We treat each other with kindness, compassion, respect and trust.

The staff will come to know your daughter well, helping her navigate the challenges of learning and growth and celebrating her successes and passions. Boarding House staff are an extension of the support students receive from their classroom teachers, tutors and Heads of House.

The staff and structures in place at CGGS Boarding enable students to participate in supervised study as well as a variety of co-curricular activities, including sport and music while managing their daily routines independently.

Weekends are spent in and around Canberra, seeing movies, being outdoors or relaxing in the Boarding House. Families also play a vital role in the community, and we aim to work in partnership with you to provide the best possible care for your daughter.

We welcome personal visits to the Boarding House and hope you will enjoy the opportunity to become familiar with its warm, friendly environment.

Facilities

Dormitories

The Boarding House dormitories can accommodate up to three students. In general, students in Years 7-9 share with one or two other boarders, students in Year 10 share with one other boarder, and Years 11 and 12 have their own rooms.

Common Room

The Boarders' Sitting Room is a communal area in which all boarders are able to relax and socialise. Looking over the courtyard, the BSR is a large, light-filled space equipped with board games, a small kitchenette, and a TV with comfortable lounge space. Years 11 and 12 also have separate common rooms.

Study Rooms

We have several rooms specially equipped for group and individual study, including a music room for practice and a computer lab.

Dining Hall

The Dining Hall is a vibrant space where boarders and staff come together to share meals and catch up. Boarders also have access to a fully equipped kitchen where they can prepare their own meals and build their cooking skills.

School facilities

All boarders have access to school facilities including the Library and sports courts.

Prep

All students undertake supervised study prep in the Boarding House on Monday to Thursday evenings. Students in Years 7-10 study in designated areas supervised by boarding staff while Years 11 and 12 may study independently or together in the Library, Dining Hall, or their own rooms.

Tutoring services may also be offered to ensure students are getting the academic support they need to achieve their best at school.

Leave

Canberra is one of Australia's most liveable cities, with many attractions and resources to enjoy. The Boarding House regularly arranges outings for students to enjoy local events, festivals and exhibitions, as well as bus runs to local attractions including the National Library and Australian Institute of Sport.

Transport to regional areas for exeat weekends and leave can also be arranged.
