Watching the XXIV Olympic Winter Games, I have been in awe of the athletes and in particular Australian athlete, Jaclyn Narracott. At a young age, Jaclyn’s dream was to become an Olympic champion. Inspired by her uncle, Jaclyn originally competed in Track and Field. Her ambition was to compete in athletics at the summer games but that changed when she joined the Australian bobsleigh squad. In order to pursue her dream, Jaclyn said goodbye to her family and travelled to Europe to train in a…
With the school year now well and truly underway, it has been a pleasure visiting the various learning spaces of the ELC and Junior School, and talking with the students and their teachers. The inquisitive smiles, the sparks of curiosity and wonder, and the commitment and determination on display have been a great source of inspiration. On one such visit to Year 4 this week, I paused to consider the power of storytelling and language – words matter. In the story of David Copperfield by Charles…
Here we are, Week 3! I cannot believe how quickly the first few weeks have gone in the Senior School. We have managed to fit a lot in to start the year, including the Year 11 and 12 Retreats, Information Evenings for the Year 8 to 10 parents, as well as one for our Year 11 parents. Thank you to everyone who attended our sessions, I hope they were informative and that they assist you in supporting your daughter in the year ahead. On Monday 14 February we celebrated Galentine’s Day. The Senior…
Something I’ve always loved in schools is that buzz of energy and industry in those precious hours around formal lesson times. In the early hours, it may be those dew-lined footprints tracing a path from locker to music rehearsal, or the stampede to sport training of an afternoon, students tumbling out from buildings, juggling schoolbags and assorted rackets and sticks. It has always made me happy to see students engaging in opportunities to grow and learn from their experiences beyond the…
Sport has hit the ground running this week with several of our co-curricular sports commencing. In the Junior School, the newly revamped football program has proven to be extremely popular. The school has developed a partnership with the Football Star Academy (FSA). They will be providing our students with an exceptional football program that is supported by qualified coaches. Tennis, basketball (U10, U12 and mini hoops), Introduction to Netball (soon to be renamed Net, Set, Go) and the hockey…
CGGS’s brand new, recently refurbished, totally fabulous Library opened its doors to all students last week, returning to normal operating hours. The librarians have been working tirelessly, alongside the Library Refurbishment Committee, in order to make sure it is ready for student use as soon as possible. The remodelled Library includes movable furniture, state-of-the-art discussion rooms, self-checkout stations, and a brand-new floor plan. One of the biggest differences between this ‘2022…
Last week our Senior students immersed themselves in a two-day retreat on campus. The retreats were led by Mrs Tara Dunstall, Ms Samantha Newbond, and Ms Rachel Vance and supported by the Year 11 and Year 12 Pastoral Care Teachers. Stepping away from their daily studies, students reflected both individually and collectively, creating plans for a successful final two years at CGGS. The Year 11 pastoral care Signature Program is ‘Young Women who Know Themselves’ and the Year 12 Signature Program…
