As we farewell Week 7, we have a lot to celebrate from the last two weeks. Our celebration of International Women’s Day through a dedicated IWD assembly was an outstanding event. The assembly was held on Monday 8 March and was a spectacular example of the depth and accomplishments of members of our school community. Led entirely by the Senior Council, the Senior School students learned about the history and significance of the day, heard about four outstanding women who have inspired SC…
The power of a community in action is a wonderful thing to behold, particularly when faced with real adversity. As Head of Junior School, Mr Peter McDonald has noted, U is for Ukraine. The international community is uniting in opposition to the Russian invasion. Closer to home, Australia continues to lead an international aid effort to support Tonga, after our Pacific neighbours were struck by a 6.2 magnitude earthquake after a volcanic eruption and tsunami in late January. And in Queensland…
Music update We have had a fantastic start to the school year here in the Music Academy. Our Instrumental Studies Program is up and running and our ensembles and classes are well attended. In particular, we have enjoyed seeing a large number of students participating in our choral program, which highlights how much we all missed singing during lockdown last year. I would like to remind everyone that several Music Academy ensembles and classes are open to new members at the beginning of each…
Recently, Isra Eski and Lucy Bott (Y12) participated in the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF). The NYSF is an organisation that inspires Australia's young scientists through a range of STEM experiences. Isra and Lucy have written about their participation in the NYSF, the guest speakers they heard from and how the NYSF has empowered them to pursue careers in STEM. In mid-January during the school holidays, we were provided with a wonderful opportunity to participate in Australia's NYSF. NYSF…

One of my favourite days of the year is fast approaching. Tuesday 8 March marks International Women’s Day, a day that provides the opportunity to reflect on progress made for women globally and to consider why and how change is still needed. In the lead up to Tuesday, today I accompanied our Senior School and Junior School student leaders, Mr Peter McDonald and Mrs Joanna Leaman to the UN Women’s IWD lunch, where the assembled crowd heard from Dr Jane Goodall, interviewed by Linh Do. We were…
Like many others, this week I have watched with despair the events unfolding in Europe. Having spent the majority of my early adult life living, working, and travelling much of the continent, and with former colleagues currently teaching in Kyiv, the scenes have been particularly difficult to watch. “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Nelson Mandela It is in these moments, however, that I am heartened that our School and our community hold a strong…
On Tuesday 8 March we will celebrate the cultural, political and socioeconomic achievements of women in society through International Womens’ Day (IWD). The theme for 2022 is Changing Climates: Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow. This theme recognises the contribution of women and girls globally who are working to change the climate of gender equality and build a sustainable future. IWD celebrates the gains made towards gender equality, while recognising there is still work to be done. A…
Sport update It was wonderful to accompany the Rowing crews last weekend for the PLC/Kings and IGSA regattas. The CGGS students were by far the loudest cheer squad on the lake, and our crews did us proud, securing several podium finishes over the weekend. A special shout out to our wonderful parent community who looked after our students by providing a smorgasbord of meals over the weekend. Our Head of Rowing Ms Pijpers continued her wonderful work mentoring our athletes and coaches. Thank you…
