On behalf of the Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS) community, I am pleased to congratulate the ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies (BSSS) and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) students of the Year 12 Class of 2024, who now have all their results.
I would like to commend the entire Class of 2024 for their leadership of the School over the course of the year. Ably led by a Senior Council whose aim was to raise our community’s voice for spirit, their catch-cry throughout 2024 has been ‘let’s hear it for spirit!’, a wonderful call for celebrating all that it means to be a CGGS student.
And indeed, ‘spirit’ will continue to be the defining element of this cohort’s aspirations and legacy. They have encouraged all in their orbit to feel a sense of togetherness, to be courageous and bold, to belong and to be themselves. They have been relentlessly positive, even when they were faced with challenging circumstances. And they have excelled in their endeavours—whether on the fields, the courts, in or on the water, in ensembles, at chess, in debating or in the classroom. CGGS has been unequivocally enlivened by their presence.
We commend all of our Year 12 students for their perseverance and focus as they have balanced their studies with a diverse array of personal accomplishments in their areas of interest and passion. We also thank the teaching staff of CGGS for the enormous contribution they have made to educating and caring for the Class of 2024.
I am certain that the graduates of the Class of 2024 will continue to light a path for others as they make their mark on the world beyond the CGGS gates. Whether in the classroom, as a part of our academic engagement programs, through their involvement in a diverse co-curricular program or their support of Beryl Women and other charitable causes, they have firmly demonstrated that they are capable and ready for the next phase of their lives.
In 2024, 93% of students undertook the BSSS and 7% studied the IBDP. Combining the results from these cohorts, we are very pleased to recognise the outstanding personal bests of our students which include the following achievements:
We are particularly delighted to congratulate Arya Shahmeen who is the 2024 Dux of the BSSS cohort and Dux of the ACT with an exceptional ATAR of 99.95, the highest achievable, and Muntaha Siddique who is the 2024 Dux of the IBDP cohort with an outstanding ATAR of 98.4.
Arya graduates from CGGS with an exemplary record, having received the BSSS Recognition of Excellence: System Leadership Award, The Belle Gillies Memorial Prize for Specialist Mathematics and the Prize for Physics, as well as Gabriel Red House Colours for Kilburn. Arya received a High Distinction in the Australian Science Olympiad earlier this year and was a member of the School’s Amnesty International group.
Similarly, Muntaha’s academic achievements at CGGS have been outstanding. At the 2024 Graduation Ceremony, she received The International Baccalaureate (IB) Academic Prize, The IB Prize Group 4 (Experimental Sciences) and The IB Prize Group 5 (Mathematics). Recently Muntaha was awarded the ICAS Medal for Mathematics, awarded to the highest performing ICAS students in the ACT. She was one of six students in the ACT and NSW to reach the State Final of the Sydney Rostrum Voice of Youth competition, and she was engaged in local programs at the ANU and international summer sessions in the USA.
Their exceptional abilities as students aside, both Arya and Muntaha are caring, supportive and kind, especially to their peers, and they are thoroughly deserving of their achievements and the success that is sure to follow them beyond CGGS.
We resoundingly congratulate and applaud each of the fine young women of the Class of 2024 on all they have achieved and wish them the best for their future endeavours.
Kind regards,
Terrie Jones
Principal
