On behalf of the Canberra Girls Grammar School community, I am pleased to congratulate the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) students of the Year 12 Class of 2022, who received their results on Tuesday, and their ATARs today.
As mentioned in our statement of BSSS results in December, the entire Class of 2022 is to be commended for their leadership of the School over the course of the year. They have demonstrated compassion and kindness, a strong sense of service and embraced the values of the School. They have persevered through adversity and change, showing remarkable adaptability and resilience. All these qualities will stand them in good stead in the world beyond school.
More than half of the Year 12 students received an unconditional offer to university, recognising a clear trend of universities recognising student achievements beyond the ATAR and the tertiary sector, acknowledging the value of a more holistic approach to education. An approach long championed by the staff and parents of CGGS.
Over the past two years, IBDP students have demonstrated the epitome of the characteristics of global citizenship. IB learners develop critical thinking skills and engage in Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) as caring young people who create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. The level of academic achievement evidenced in the 2022 IBDP results only further attests to the intellectual calibre of these fine young women.
In the IBDP, students undertake six academic subjects from five curriculum areas, and results are awarded on a seven-point scale with up to three additional points awarded for performance in the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge, totalling a maximum of 45 (ATAR equivalent of 99.85 or above).
In 2022, 14% of Year 12 students studied the IBDP and 86% of students undertook the ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies (BSSS). All IBDP students received their IB Diploma with two students receiving a prestigious Bilingual Diploma.
A total of 2,421 students in Australia (164 in the ACT) studied the IBDP in 2022, and the Australian student average score was 35.6. We are extremely pleased to recognise the exceptional academic achievements of our IBDP students in 2022 with a median IB score of 37 out of 45 (ATAR equivalent approximately 94). 14% of IB students received an ATAR of over 99, 21% over 98, 57% over 95, 64% over 90 and 86% over 80. Combined with the BSSS results, the School’s median ATAR for 2022 is 90.28.
We are particularly delighted to congratulate Miriam Cowan, the 2022 Dux of the IBDP cohort, who earned a score of 43 (ATAR equivalent 99.45).
We also congratulate students and teachers for their very strong performance in the Core areas of the Diploma, with 29% of the cohort receiving the maximum Core Component Points for the Diploma, and a Perfect Score in the Extended Essay (Latin) by Iris Leach Dowe.
While I have only been at the School for a short time, it has been a source of pride to see our students and staff maintain such high standards of endeavour and behaviour during their conclusion of learning at our School.
We congratulate the 2022 Year 12 IBDP cohort on all they have achieved and wish them all the very best for the future. Each and every student has much of which they can be justly proud.
Kind regards,
Terrie Jones
Principal
