Year 12 Class of 2022 - BSSS Results and Achievements

This statement was originally released on 13 December 2022, and has since been updated to include IBDP results, which were released on 5 January 2023.

On behalf of the Canberra Girls Grammar School community, I am pleased to congratulate the BSSS students of the Year 12 Class of 2022 who received their results in December. We also congratulate the IBDP cohort who received their results in January.

Firstly, I would like to commend the entire Class of 2022 for their leadership of the School over the course of the year. They have demonstrated compassion and kindness, a strong sense of service, and embraced the values of the School. They have persevered through adversity and change, showing remarkable adaptability and resilience. All these qualities will stand them in good stead in the world beyond school.

Whether in the classroom, as a part of our Academic Engagement Programs, through their involvement in our diverse Co-curricular and Signatures, or by their participation in charitable cause and commitment to leadership and service, they have firmly demonstrated that they are a cohort devoted to excellence. The level of academic achievement evidenced in the 2022 BSSS results only further attests to the intellectual calibre of these fine young women.

In 2022, 86% of Year 12 students undertook the ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies (BSSS), and 14% studied the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP).

We are extremely pleased to recognise the outstanding academic achievements of our BSSS students in 2022 with a CGGS median ATAR of 89.95 for the BSSS cohort, which is the highest median ATAR for CGGS in the last 18 years. Combined with the IBDP results, the School’s median ATAR for 2022 is 90.28.

All BSSS students received their Senior Secondary Certificate and all those studying a tertiary package received a Tertiary Entrances Statement (ATAR), and 5% of students received an ATAR over 99, 21% over 95, 50% over 90, and 70% over 80, with a CGGS median ATAR of 89.95.

In addition, more than half of the Year 12 students received an unconditional offer to university, recognising a clear trend of universities recognising student achievements beyond the ATAR and the tertiary sector, acknowledging the value of a more holistic approach to education. An approach long-championed by the staff and parents of CGGS.

We are particularly delighted to congratulate Isabella Mun (Bella) who is the 2022 Dux of the BSSS cohort with an exceptional ATAR of 99.95. Bella was recognised at yesterday’s BSSS Recognition of Excellence Ceremony with awards for Academic Achievement and an Individual Course Area Award in Specialist Mathematics. Bella was also recognised for her participation in the BSSS Student Board Forum.

Along with Bella, Sahanna Mayooran was recognised for her extensive involvement in service at CGGS and the wider community with a BSSS Excellence Award in Community Service.

While I have only been at the School for a short while, it has been a source of pride to see our students and staff maintain such high standards of endeavour and behaviour during their conclusion of learning at our School.

Due to the dual nature of our educational curriculum – and like all schools offering the IB Diploma alongside another curriculum – the School’s results will be presented in full when the IBDP results are released in early January 2023.

We congratulate the 2022 Year 12 cohort on all they have achieved and wish them all the very best for the future. Each and every student has much of which they can be justly proud.

Kind regards,

Terrie Jones
Principal
