This week, we celebrate our students' achievements across community service, academic excellence and teamwork, showcasing the incredible spirit of our School community.
Building connections through community service
Our Year 10–12 students, in partnership with Cafe Stepping Stone, have been making a meaningful impact through weekly tutoring sessions for children aged 3–12 residing in a unique government housing pilot project. These children face significant challenges in school, and our students have been dedicating their time to support their learning and growth.
The Stepping Stone Café founders, Vanessa and Hannah, were recently recognised as ACT Local Hero Award Winners, a testament to their incredible work to support families escaping domestic violence and individuals experiencing long-term homelessness. We are proud to partner with such an inspiring social enterprise and commend our students for their commitment to community service.
Ethics Olympiad: Bound for International Finals
Our Ethics Olympiad team received their Silver Medals this week, a significant achievement that qualifies them to represent the ACT at the International Final in February next year. This competition highlights their critical thinking, ethical reasoning and teamwork.
Congratulations to the team on this outstanding accomplishment. We wish them the best as they prepare to compete on the international stage!
Recognising excellence in Mathematics
Congratulations to Laurence (Year 3) for receiving the Best in School Award for the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC). Laurence's exceptional talent and dedication to his studies of mathematics and problem-solving are a testament to his result.
da Vinci Decathlon
The da Vinci Decathlon is a challenging academic competition that tests students in Mathematics, English, Engineering and Art. This year, CGGS was represented by four teams, with our Year 8 and Year 10 teams earning first place in the regional competition and advancing to the state competition at Knox Grammar School in Sydney.
Special recognition goes to:
Year 10 Retreat
On Tuesday and Wednesday our Year 10 students attended their annual Retreat at Yhuuramulum with an excursion to Missing Klues Escape Rooms. The retreat focused on fostering collaboration, teamwork and house spirit through bonding activities, house lunches and problem-solving challenges.
The retreat also included a special house induction ceremony, where students were welcomed into their house groups, strengthening their sense of community and belonging.
