This week, we highlight outstanding performances of our students across a variety of areas, from dance and sports to community service and ethical debates.
Year 10 at DanceFest
Our Year 10 Dance students delivered a powerful performance at the Ausdance Youth Dance Festival recently. Centered on the theme, 'What do you dream?', inspired by Sylvia Plath’s 'The Bell Jar', the piece explored the complex decisions and consequences we face in life, symbolized by the ensemble’s purple figs.
The performance posed thought-provoking questions: Will we ever make the right choices? Or will we always hold regrets for the dreams we never pursued? Congratulations to our talented dancers for their creative choreography and storytelling.
Silver medal at the Middle School Ethics Olympiad
Our Middle School Ethics team showcased exceptional critical thinking, communication, and teamwork at the Middle School Ethics Olympiad this week, earning a silver medal for the ACT. The competition challenges students to thoughtfully debate ethical dilemmas.
Congratulations to CGGS team members Helen, Alana, Anarae (Year 7) and Sonita (Year 8).
A strong finish at the Netball NSW Schools Cup
Our Years 5–6 Netball team proudly represented CGGS at the Netball NSW Schools Cup State Finals in Sydney. Competing against some of the strongest teams in NSW, they delivered impressive performances, showcasing their skill and teamwork.
After the competition, our students had the exciting opportunity to connect with professional players from the NSW Swifts and GWS Giants, engaging in various activities and learning from the best.
Constable Kenny visits Kindergarten
This week, our Kindergarten students were thrilled to welcome Constable Kenny, the friendly and fluffy police mascot, to their classroom. The visit was filled with laughter and learning as Constable Kenny shared important lessons about community safety and the role of police in helping others.
Through interactive activities and storytelling, students explored topics like road safety, stranger danger, and how to seek help in emergencies.
A workshop with the ACT Children’s Commissioner
Year 10 students had a unique opportunity to meet Ms. Jodie Griffiths-Cook, the ACT Children’s Commissioner, during a workshop on children’s human rights recently. As part of her listening tour, the Commissioner discussed key issues affecting young people and sought their input to shape her strategic plan for the ACT. The workshop empowered students to share their perspectives on laws and policies that impact their lives. It was an inspiring session that reinforced the importance of advocacy and making their voices heard.
Making a difference with Share the Dignity
Our Year 10 students led a heartwarming initiative for Share the Dignity—It’s in the Bag Christmas Appeal. Over the past few weeks, students have been filling handbags with essential items to bring comfort and hope to women and girls, especially those spending Christmas in domestic violence refuges or homeless shelters.
