Student News - Term 1 Week 8 2023

Good luck to our CGGS Rowers competing at the National Rowing Championship in Perth this weekend. A special thank you to Ms Caroline Pijpers, who travelled by car to Perth to ensure that the boats made it across safely.

Our CGGS Rowers also achieved excellent results at the Head of the River regatta recently, winning the School-girls 4x+, 2x and the First and Second Division Year 10 4x+. The girls also finished second in the Third Division Year 10 4x+ and third in the Second Division School-girls 4+.

At the Independent Girls' Schools Sporting Association (IGSA) Swimming Carnival, Chloe (Y11) was named Intermediate Age Champion, after breaking three IGSA records - the 50m freestyle (which she broke twice) and the 100m freestyle. Nine students made the finals across the event.

Well done to Olivia (Y7) who placed first in the 400m, 800m and 1500m at the ACT age 9-13 State Championship. Olivia has also been selected to the ACT team to compete at the Australian Little Athletics Championships in Melbourne from 21-23 April.

At the Australian Mathematical Olympiad (AMO), Sophia (Y12) was one of only two Year 12 students in the ACT to receive a Bronze Award at the competition (the highest award achieved in the ACT), and Muntaha (Y11) was the only Year 11 student to appear in the official results list for the ACT, with an Honourable Mention award. The AMO is a two-day Olympiad-level contest comprising four questions each day. Around 200 students are invited to participate in this event from Australia and New Zealand.

Congratulations to Devri (Y5) who has been selected for the 2023 School Sports ACT U12 Girls Cricket team. Devri will compete in the School Sports Australia Cricket Championship in June.
