CGGS students attend Last Post Ceremony
On Friday afternoon two CGGS Junior School students were invited to the Australian War Memorial to participate in the Last Post Ceremony to commemorate the loss of HMAS Perth I and USS Houston in the Battle of Sunda Strait.
Sisters Millicent (Kindergarten) and Eleanor (Year 6) respectfully laid wreaths at the ceremony, which took place in the Memorial's Commemorative Courtyard. As members of our Defence School Mentor Program, the students were honoured to also write a card that accompanied the wreath which will be kept in the archive of the Australian War Memorial.
The Australian Defence Force community has strong connections with CGGS, and is supported by our Defence School Mentor Program, providing students from Defence families opportunities to build meaningful relationships with their peers and the wider community.
Buddy program
The ELC hosted their first Pre-Kindergarten and Year 5 Buddies session on Tuesday, with the Year 5 students enjoying reading to their buddies. Students were paired with another student from the same house so they can participate with their buddies in future house activities and can continue with the same buddy until the end of Year 6 and Kindergarten.
Swimming results
Recently 10 Junior School students travelled to Sydney overnight to compete against NSW schools at the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia (IPSHA) Swimming Carnival. It was a fantastic experience for the team with each student representing the school with pride. In addition, there were some remarkable results achieved, with every student earning a ribbon. In total, CGGS received 26 ribbons, including:
A special highlight was a first place victory in the 9/10-year-old relay and an impressive second place finish in the 11/12-year-old relay.
Year 6 student Georgia claimed first place in both the 50m and 100m Freestyle events overall, making her the fastest female at the carnival. What an incredible achievement!
Rowing results
Congratulations to all participants on their results from the ACT Head of the Lake! CGGS emerged as the winner of the overall School Girls Point Score. A standout moment was seeing our Captains of Boats, Eliza Miller and Sophie Murphy, row a double against Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia.
As we look ahead to the NSW School Girls Head of the River this weekend, we wish everyone the best of luck!
