Student news: Term 1 Week 2 2025

It was a huge week of sport for CGGS students, who showcased incredible teamwork and dedication.

Rowing

At the 2025 NSW Rowing Championships in Penrith last weekend, CGGS rowers secured the top spot in the School Girls Coxed Quad, setting a course record of 7:04.

Additionally, the U16 Coxed Quad earned a Silver medal, the U17 2x won Bronze and the U19 Coxless Quad took home Silver.

All of the girls performed exceptionally well in the tough conditions, and are making significant progress across the entire program as they look ahead to the NSW Head of the River and the Australian Nationals in a few weeks.

Wrestling

Congratulations to Year 7 student Natalia, who is now a NSW Junior State Wrestling Champion!

Natalia travelled to Sydney last weekend to compete, placing first in the U13 and U15 division.

Natalia has been training all summer for this event with coach Witold Rejlic, who is the former Head Coach of the Australian Commonwealth Games Team, and all the hard work certainly paid off.

Basketball

In December, 20 of our Senior School basketball students and four CGGS staff members travelled to the USA for a Basketball Tour.

The CGGS team were strong competitors in the Varsity and Junior Varsity tournaments across Texas and Washington, placing second and third in one of the tournaments.

The group also immersed themselves in cultural experiences, visiting renowned universities, exploring NASA facilities and attending NBA and NHL games. Other key highlights of the tour included the iconic Dallas Cowboys Stadium, the vibrant San Antonio Riverwalk and memorable visits to Disneyland, Venice Beach and Hollywood.
