Music Academy update

It has been an exciting time in The Music Academy. Term 4 has seen several events occur with one of the most notable being the Gabriel Singers involvement in the POW Requiem Performance on Saturday, 29 October in Llewellyn Hall. Singing alongside the Woden Valley Youth Choir and performing with professional musicians from across Australia, students participated in a multi-movement work, which explored the experiences of Australian Prisoners of War in World War II. Thank you to all staff and students who participated in this event and we look forward to potentially being involved in future requiems.

In Week 4 of this term, The Henson Family Recital Room was officially opened. This revitalised space now offers a fantastic opportunity for us to easily perform to a large audience on the Senior School Quad. We are looking forward to using this space for several concerts and events in 2023 and beyond. Following the opening of The Henson Family Recital Room, we held our annual Euphony Concert in the Chapel. This concert featured our small ensembles including Saxophone Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, Emily Quartet, Brass Ensemble, Kain Guitar Ensemble, Chamber Ensemble, Resound Handbells, Vocal Ensemble, Wind Quintet, Gabriel Quartet, Strike! Handbells, Williams Guitar Ensemble, Canto Handbells and Clarinet Ensemble. This was a pleasant evening of music in the beautiful setting of the Chapel and was enjoyed by all.

During this term, we also held our Senior and Year 6 Recital. This was a wonderful opportunity to farewell our Year 12 classroom music students and celebrate their achievements. In Week 6, we held our BIP Recruitment Afternoon at the Junior School featuring the BIP Band, Bandicoot Concert Band, Holst Concert Band and Grey Street Stage Band. Our annual Music BBQ and Awards evening last Friday was a pleasant afternoon, with many Music Academy families and community members joining to celebrate another successful year of music.

Between now and the end of the year, we are looking forward to holding our Christmas Concert, Year 7 Class Instrumental Program Concert, performances at the Year 12 Graduation Service, Junior School Celebration Day and Senior School Celebration Day and the Year 6 Band Immersion Program Information Afternoon. Thank you everyone for a fantastic year of music!
