Music update
We have had a fantastic start to the school year here in the Music Academy. Our Instrumental Studies Program is up and running and our ensembles and classes are well attended. In particular, we have enjoyed seeing a large number of students participating in our choral program, which highlights how much we all missed singing during lockdown last year. I would like to remind everyone that several Music Academy ensembles and classes are open to new members at the beginning of each school term. Details regarding admission requirements can be found in the Music Academy Handbook. We will be accepting additional registrations for select co-curricular activities later this term, so please watch this space.
Jazz in the Hall
On Saturday 5 March, we had our first major concert for the school year, Jazz in the Hall. This was originally going to be outdoors in our Senior School Quad. However, due to wet weather, we moved this event indoors. Despite this, guests enjoyed a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, as they were able to sit around tables with their family and enjoy refreshments offered by the Friends of Music. Our very own Grey Street Stage Band, Adelaide Avenue Jazz Band, and our small Jazz Ensemble entertained guests throughout the afternoon. Our visiting artists, Blamey Street Big Band, also performed alongside our students and presented their own highly entertaining set. I would like to offer my sincere thanks to all staff and students involved in this concert. Special thanks must go to our Head of Woodwind, Mr Stephen Rabe, as well as Ms Sophie Edwards and Ms Lim Hur for capably preparing students for this concert. Thank you also to Mr Ian McLean for his leadership of Blamey Street Big Band and for being a highly entertaining MC.
Together in Music
Our next major event, as part of our 2022 Concert Series, is Together in Music. This concert will occur on Friday 1 April from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. Tickets are available for purchase via this link. Members from several Canberra community choirs will join our Chorale on stage, accompanied by the Glanville-Hicks Symphony Orchestra to perform The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, by Karl Jenkins. We will also hear several individual items from Empire Concert Band, Strike! Handbells, and Glanville-Hicks Symphony Orchestra in what promises to be an exciting evening of music. Tickets are limited, so we encourage you to book in advance to avoid disappointment. Please note that we will also be live streaming this concert for those in the community who are unable to be present on the night. I do hope you will be able to join us either virtually or in person!
We in the Music Academy are looking forward to the rest of Term 1 and what promises to be an exciting year of live music. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. I am looking forward to meeting many of you, as the year progresses.

Sport update
Last week we held our Senior School Athletics Carnival across two venues, the AIS and Senior School Oval. The atmosphere and House spirit were evident at both venues. It was a successful day on the track, with students from Years 7 to 12 participating in both non-competitive and competitive races. Students were empowered to help run the event and showed wonderful leadership. Our school leaders did an amazing job keeping their peers active and entertained throughout the day. A special shout out to the following students who recorded impressive results:
Triple Jump | 18 | F | Ajulo | Inemami | 10.77 | 10.64 |

Our Year 3 to 6 students had a wonderful Swimming Carnival at the Senior School pool last Wednesday and Thursday. House chants echoed throughout the School all day. Congratulations to Ms Louise Burrows and staff, for making the event a huge success.
Rowing News
We had an extremely successful doubleheader Regatta recently. The entire rowing squads’ performance was outstanding, especially coming off a doubleheader the previous weekend in Sydney. The CGGS rowing squad came third overall at Head of the Lake.
