At CGGS, we feel passionately about providing the next generation of young leaders with a platform to nurture and celebrate their voice.
Recently CGGS hosted the TEDxCanberra Youth 2024 Stars event as Presenting Partners. Held in the Senior School Hall in the heart of the nation’s capital, this incredible event highlighted the power of youth-led ideas, leaving a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.
Since 2010, TEDxCanberra has celebrated the brilliance of ideas, bringing the community together through inspiring talks that span science, technology, arts, culture, and the humanities. This tradition continued at CGGS as we proudly hosted eight visionary young speakers on the iconic red TED stage, including two CGGS speakers, Ingrid (Year 12) and Leensaa (Year 12).
The day began with a strong sense of anticipation as the speakers and their topics were announced. A captivating piano performance by CGGS student Ziqi (Year 10) welcomed guests—her rendition of 'The Lark' was remarkably beautiful and set a reflective tone for the day with its melancholic beauty.
Following morning tea, the second half of the event brought more moments of inspiration, including the presentations from CGGS students Ingrid (Year 12) and Leensaa (Year 12).
Ingrid shared her powerful insights on the importance of storytelling in challenging and healing misconceptions about beauty, drawing from her experiences growing up in a multicultural environment. Leensaa delivered a compelling speech on the urgent need to confront and rectify racial discrimination in Australia, inspiring the audience with her passion for equality and justice.
As the event drew to a close, Ziqi returned to the stage, this time joined by Scarlet (Year 10) for a mesmerising piano and guitar mash-up of Noah Kahan and Taylor Swift songs.
We thank everyone involved in the event preparation—the TEDxCanberra Youth team, our dedicated volunteers, speakers, performers, and mentors—for making this event a resounding success!
