Can you see us?

Have you noticed CGGS students happen to be popping up everywhere at the moment? Perhaps you’ve seen our sports stars dashing across courts and running across fields, or our Snow Sport students racing down the slopes? Maybe our musicians have caught your eye, at the Year 3 recital, or, more recently, at our Combined Bands performance? Or our Junior School Defense students attending ADFA’s production of Peter Pan? Our debaters have certainly been on show, delivering thought-provoking arguments and witty repartee to secure another Kitchen-Tyrell debate against Canberra Grammar School. Or perhaps it was our Year 12 IBDP artists capturing both your imagination and heart with their stunning exhibition? To all of the students involved in the above, our response is a resounding “yes, we can!”

One of the loveliest moments I’ve seen over the past fortnight would have to have been at the Rotary Markets, Bateman’s Bay. It was the first time CGGS students have participated in co-curricular Regional Engagement post-pandemic, and their impact on the local community was joyous. The whole point of our co-curricular Regional Engagement is for our students to give back through service to a community within our region, with no expectation of receiving anything in return other than the opportunity to serve.

Armed with face paint, courage, and some excellent stencils, three of our Year 9 students departed School at 5.00am on Sunday, 21 August, and set up our tent in Bateman’s Bay. As they painted crowns and tigers, flowers and footballs, the girls collected gold coin donations to return to Rotary at the end of the day. Passing Grammarians, former CGGS staff, and families alike were delighted to engage with our students, and the girls returned to School by 3.30pm, feeling content and proud of their day’s work.

This is just the beginning for us. If you happen to be in Bateman’s Bay this Sunday, do pass by the markets – this week in support of Marine Rescue. You can find them on Corrigans Beach Reserve from 9.00am – 1.00pm (weather permitting). Our Year 9 students would love to say hello.
