Now that we have reached the end of term, I want to highlight the many events we have held so far this year. From Anzac Day, International Women’s Day and Reconciliation Day assemblies, to the many Choral and Musical Concerts, Drama and Dance productions, Year 11 Semi-Formal, the Parent Partnership Series, Year 7 and 8 Social, Summer Shorts, excursions, incursions, tournaments, galas, Grammar’s Got Talent, and everything else in between, it has been an action-packed semester. Returning to a near-normal, pre-COVID existence has been a welcome change for us all.
One of these events, Grammar’s Got Talent, was held this week. This was a significant undertaking for the Senior Council, who primarily ran it themselves (with a little guidance where necessary!). They conducted the auditions, connected with sponsors, invited the judging panel, organised the prizes, ran the raffle and managed the event on the night superbly. Our SC charity, Focus ACT, will be the benefactors of the money raised from this event, and we will present them with their cheque once the final totals are known at an assembly next term. I want to acknowledge the work of our School Captain Holly Irvine and Vice-Captain Lauren Goldie for their exceptional contribution to this event over the last month, and for their unfailing encouragement of everyone involved, especially when the going was tough in juggling competing priorities. Our students will be receiving their reports over the break, and I know for some, this will be a good time to consider setting targets for the second semester. Encourage your child to read their report, especially the teachers' comments for Years 11 and 12 students. Our teachers take great care in giving this feedback, and discussing it with your child makes a difference. Their teachers are always willing to help them to understand their next steps.
Next week will see the start of the three-week break allowing students to recharge and rest a little, and for some, a chance to catch up on sleep, watch some Netflix or take a winter holiday break. Whatever you and your family have planned over these three weeks, I hope there is space for a little reflection on how much your daughter has achieved this year already. Our students have worked hard, have achieved some great results and are looking positively toward the future.
