For a century, generations of students from across Australia and the globe have experienced that at CGGS, we are creating a world where young people never stop believing that anything is possible. Established by trail-blazing women, the School continues to champion fearless leadership, visionary thinking, unwavering resilience and engaging learning for life.

Located just one kilometre from Parliament House, CGGS provides a world-class educational and co-curricular offering in the heart of the nation’s capital. Perfectly positioned at mid-sized with 1300+ students, the School is co-educational from Early Learning to Year 3, then female-focused through to Year 12.

A three programme IB School

CGGS was the first school in Canberra to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). The IB is a robust academic curriculum, designed to build solid and continuous learning from early childhood through to Year 12. Our IB education is more than just an academic pathway—it is a global approach to teaching and learning that equips students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to navigate and shape their journey towards a world of endless possibility.

Commitment to holistic learning

At CGGS we place strong emphasis on a balanced, broad-based education in a culture that celebrates authenticity and originality. The School’s bespoke Signature Programs inspire respect, empathy and kindness, offering a comprehensive framework that nurtures academic, emotional and social growth from the ELC to Year 12—students are set on a path to become confident and capable young adults.

Empowering the next generation of women in STEM

Girls’ schools have an important role to play in fostering a love of learning in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics—our graduates leave school prepared, inspired and confident to pursue careers in STEM fields if they so choose. Since 2021, students at CGGS have increasingly chosen to study more than one Science, with Biology, Earth and Environmental Science and Psychology, all levels of Mathematics, including Double Specialist Maths and a range of computing and digital technology subjects rounding out a compelling STEM offering.

Female-focused and fiercely independent

Supported by our IB Programme, our firm commitment to international-mindedness and holistic learning prepares students not just for academic success but to be engaged and responsible global citizens.

Through our Signature Programs students are empowered to be resilient, critical thinking leaders, setting them on the path to becoming confident and capable young women ready to make a positive impact on the world.

A range of advanced STEM subjects prepare graduates to be leaders in all fields of endeavor, including STEM fields that are traditionally male-dominated.

Space to shine + a shared purpose

Curiosity, problem-solving and deeper understanding is encouraged through IB learning components such as the Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE) and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) which promote compassionate, responsible and globally engaged young people.

From the ELC to Year 12, students are guided through their journey of growth and independence via the Signature Programs, shaping mindfulness and emotional balance with a healthy dose of fun.

Students are empowered to follow their passions and elect to study one or more STEM subjects via a comprehensive subject selection list, that includes Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Computer Science, Digital Technologies and Specialist Mathematics.

CGGS is intentionally and unapologetically a mid-sized school, resulting in students that are known, cared for and have a place to grow and thrive.

High expectations + high support

A rigorous academic curriculum, supported by the globally recognised IB framework, provides our graduates the opportunity to apply for top universities both in Australia and abroad.

The explicit teaching of literacy and numeracy at our Junior School and ELC creates a strong foundation for our youngest learners to thrive and develop lifelong learning and study habits.

A focused Senior Phase of Learning prepares Years 10—12 students to explore potential career pathways, hone leadership skills and gain practical experience through work placements and extended learning opportunities.

Enabled by expert teaching staff, a world-class STEM program begins in the Junior School, encouraging students to engage in thought-provoking experiments and deep scientific inquiry.

A strong foundation + focused learning

Research-based pastoral care structures encourage students to develop their sense of self to flourish now, and in the future.

As the first school on the eastern side of Australia to offer the Einstein-First curriculum, students experience an innovative project led by the University of Western Australia, Curtin University and the ANU that teaches the fundamental concepts of modern physics from Year 3 onwards.

100+ co-curricular choices = creative, confident, capable

Cygnus at CGGS embeds learning programs beyond the classroom to encourage collaboration, healthy habits and inspire a sense of joy and purpose.

An integrated experiential and outdoor education component to our Signature Programs creates an appreciation for the natural world and inspires personal insight, independence and a deeper understanding of a student’s own capacity for action.

Enriching extended learning opportunities beyond the standard STEM curriculum are available, such as the Australian Mathematics Competition, Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge and the Engineering Challenge to stimulate and challenge agile, creative minds with a commitment to making a difference.
